Susan Clay Baldwin was born and grew up in rural Southside Virginia, where she now lives on a lake with her husband Tommy. A graduate of Longwood University with a degree in English and certification in Library Science and Education, she worked as a school librarian until retirement.
Her poetry, essays and short stories are influenced by nature and human relativity. Many works are also biographical accounts of family and events from childhood. She has been published by a number of small independent publications, often using the pen name Carrie Smith.
