VISION SERPENT

violent and sublime as carved Mayan glyphs:
single-celled words, our animal’s written form.
a visual history of blood
washing over bones.

nature gathers

offering:
I bled until the pot brimmed,
bled to feed my roots

the jungle covers a multitude of sacrifice
how much will grow by this letting
of hands dripping to feed currents

HAWK

I’ve watched for you my whole life
lyrical bird in the heavens
majestic hawk, circling
brown tipped wings beating

the depth of your eye
sees all motion

bird of the seven skies
pull your wings against the weight of air
wide arc spanning field
dive for love or hunger

you have not told me everything
as you appear
