Respiration and perspiration lead to aspiration.
She seared a smile on sacred lips,
sneaked eye-darts 'round the room,
gulped her courage on the rocks
till cheeks began to bloom.
Once more she wondered if she'd
gin the recklessness it took
to toe outside her cage-safe life
to take a furtive look,
to taste a desperation
akin unto her own,
to grasp at loving's counterfeit
since none remained at home.
He joined her there without a word--
a panther on the prowl.
She stuttered conversation,
heard lies purred gritty-growled.
When time had come to seal the deal
he led her out the door.
Sent her, untried, in homeward cab--
relieved--while aching more.
