Poverty and Politics both start with “P.” They’ll both leave you wanting. – Charles Lucas
Dinner's Pass Stewart and Joe had already eaten both horses and the pack mules. Boots and belts were all they had left. The mountain pass wouldn’t be open for another month. “We’re gonna die,” said Stewart. “One of us,” replied Joe. Stewart nodded sleepily, hoping it wouldn’t be him.
Late May, a lone, emaciated man staggered into town from over the pass, collapsing in front of the saloon. “Good God, man,” said the sheriff, “did you spend the entire winter up in the high country?” Joe nodded weakly. “This man is starving,” the sheriff cried. “Bring him some stew.” Joe smiled, “Yum.”
