She’s told girls, including tomboys, can’t be wrestlers. So Auria practices Super Fly Jimmy Snuka’s signature move in private. She stands on the corner of the couch, raises her hands in a peace sign, and jumps chest first onto a blanket of pillows that lay on the floor. On the sly, she challenges her cousin to a match. “No, you’re a girl.” Auria simulates the sound of a roaring crowd. “They’re calling for us.” Swayed, he takes his position. She takes hers. In a flash she’s pretzeled in a figure-four leg lock. She cries out, “Let go. I’m a girrrrrrl.” -Sati Melendez
